Position Summary: The sales team at WellPet is made up of sales professionals who understand the difference our products make in the lives of pets and work with their customers to ensure WellPet products are readily available for pets to enjoy!   We have an immediate opening for a Key Account Manager to join our sales team.  This is a dynamic, highly visible role reporting to the Independent Team Sales Director.  The Key Account Manager is responsible for building and executing a growth plan that executes the company strategy at Pet Food Experts, PetLife, Rumford Pets and 1-2 other regional accounts. 



Position Description (Responsibilities):

  • Establish and maintain good business relationships with Pet Food Express, PetLife and all other accounts; must be cognizant of their strategic direction, financial strength, challenges and overall value as a business partner.
  • Develop and manage a business forecast which aligns to goals.  Ensure the forecast accounts for market dynamics driving the current/future performance, i.e. new area’s, new/lost accounts, inventory, etc.
  • Possess the ability to effectively direct and manage an indirect sales force which will drive OTD distributor sales and close distribution voids in the marketplace.  There will be two teams to support the business growth; the WellPet Account team and the Pet Food Express Inside/Outside sales team.
  • Analyze & understand the critical drivers impacting the business and develop strategies and tactics that capitalize on these drivers. Key indicators include: POS, OTD, direct shipments, Share Development, Category Index, Mix Management, Spending, Returns/Markdowns, etc.
  • Understand and utilize all key measurements available to manage the business pace, i.e Inventory Management and Sku productivity.
    • Highly analytical with a proven ability and understanding of key Performance Indices (PKI’s)
    • Effective control of Process and Projects
  • Ensure execution of Corporate Marketing strategy.  In addition, build plans to supplement as needed with account specific programming.
  • Create and implement new item launch strategies that leverage the distributor’s and retailer’s capabilities to drive execution.
  • Deliver thought leadership within the account to establish WellPet as THE category resource.
  • Identify and develop strong working relationships with cross functional team members including but not limited to marketing, telesales, purchasing, operations and the field sales team.
  • Champion the business needs for the accounts whether direct buy or serviced through a distributor; work with peers to manage and develop the indirect support team to ensure objectives are met.
  • Demonstrate clear ownership, leadership and accountability
  • Communicate crucial market, trade and competitive information on a timely basis.

Other requirements include: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in account/sales management in the consumer products industry
  • The ideal candidate should live within easy travel distance of the Providence RI market
  • Travel between 30% - 40% of the time
  • Experience managing an indirect sales group and distributor management a plus
