Position Summary: Are you an experienced product development professional looking to grow your career and make an immediate impact in a fast paced environment?   This position is responsible for supporting the success of developing new products as well as monitoring the quality of existing products. The role of Senior Product Development Technologist reports to the Senior Product Development Manager and is based out of our Tewksbury Corporate Headquarters location.


Position Description (Responsibilities):

  • Develop new products beginning at the concept phase through successful commercialization
  • Actively build ideas of cost saving opportunities for ingredients, finish products and processes.
  • Manages individual tasks and works under limited supervision
  • Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Marketing, Procurement, R&D, Sales, Operations, and Finance
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key customers and vendors at all levels
  • Partner with the procurement team and suppliers to drive ingredient changes (when applicable)
  • Coordinate and conduct pilot scale trials as well as commercial scale commissioning trials to ensure functionality and acceptability of finished products
  • Create and maintain budget expectations for key initiatives to stay within corporate spending expectations
  • Serving as mentor and talent developer for less experienced technical colleagues
  • Researching and assessing new ingredients & technologies for PD improvement
  • Collaborating with outside consultants, and / or with vendors on special projects
  • Collecting and interpreting test data
  • Utilizing a strong understanding of consumer & general sensory testing, including PD application

Position Requirements:

This position is ideally suited for a local individual who has demonstrated success in a similar role as well as a working in a high-paced environment.  Other requirements include: 

  • BS in Food Science. MS preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience and career progression
  • Thorough understanding of food science and animal nutrition
  • Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization
  • Good understanding of food industry standards of quality and food safety, and FDA regulations (AAFCO, FSMA, etc)
  • Exhibits leadership and proactive attitude in approaching technical solutions to business and market issues
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously, under tight time constraints and within budget parameters
  • Well-developed communication skills, including written and oral presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively build rapport and influence to accomplish research goals
  • Great negotiating skills when working through conflict resolution
  • Effective collaborator
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Lives within reasonable commuting distance from our Tewksbury home office location
  • Expected percentage of travel:  Up to 25%
