Position Summary: Our Mishawaka team at WellPet is made up of professionals who understand the difference our products make in the lives of pets. We are currently seeking Sanitation Supervisor to join our team. This position is based in our Mishawaka, Indiana office. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Sanitation Manager will maintain sanitary conditions at the plant. Additionally, the Sanitation Manager will supervise a team of Sanitation Technicians and interact with the members of the Mishawaka leadership team.

Position Description (Responsibilities):

  • Perform dry cleaning and general cleaning and sanitation responsibilities as assigned throughout the plant
  • Inspect, promote and maintain adherence to food safety cleanliness in the handling of product, ingredients and finished goods using proper work procedures and compliance with Food Safety Standards as defined by the FDA, BRC, and Preventive Controls and Prerequisite programs under the direction of the Production Manager
  • Review shelf life, plating samples and machinery swab results to insure proper cleaning is being performed in the plant in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager
  • Understand and use chemical or non-chemical pest control systems. May be certified in the use of pesticides and cleaners.
  • Ensure chemical containers are properly marked and tagged with the ability to track chemical inventory.
  • Keep neat, accurate records of all work performed
  • Perform internal audits in conjunction with Management Team and provide Corrective Action Support
  • Support production work crew in improving sanitation and cleaning procedures
  • Create and/or update SSOPs and maintain and implement a Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Responsible for post-clean assessment and confirmation
  • Ensure all staff performing sanitation duties are appropriately trained commensurate with their job responsibilities
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels through either recruitment or, for short-term staffing solutions, via temporary labor agencies
  • Perform additional projects as assigned by supervisor to ensure product safety and quality

Position Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to speak, communicate and understand English
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform tasks on a ladder or at heights
  • Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to understand chemical usage procedures, personal protective equipment and apply that knowledge safely to sanitation
  • Knowledge of visual work control and 5S is a plus


  • Must have previous supervisory & sanitation experience in the food industry
  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 plus years of supervision experience
  • Computer literate in MS Office products and other standard packages
  • Knowledge of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use as it applies to chemical usage
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of equipment and its function along with chemical applications awareness

Work Environment

  • Combination of plant, office and outdoors environment
  • Frequent exposure to elements such as odor, noise, heat, cold, dust & chemicals
