Position Summary

We are seeking an Accounting Professional to join our team in the role of Plant Controller. Working out of our South St. Paul production facility, our Plant Controller will report to the Plant Manager and will work closely with senior level executives across Sojos and our parent company, WellPet LLC.

Our Plant Controller is responsible for the accuracy of the manufacturing facility’s financial statements and preparation of related reporting. Based out of our South Saint Paul Production Facility, the Plant Controller will report directly to the Plant Manager and indirectly to the Corporate Controller. As a key business partner to the Plant Manager, the Plant Controller will partner to ensure operating efficiency and achievement of key performance indicators which drive plant performance and profitability. 


Position Description (Responsibilities):

  • Responsible for all accounting processes of Sojos – month end close, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, inventory
  • Assist with transition of transactional accounting to corporate office in 12-18 months
  • Forecast manufacturing facility financial results monthly
  • Lead annual budgeting process and related ongoing variance analysis
  • Design and implement KPI dashboards; perform monthly variance analysis
  • Prepare and lead monthly presentations of financial results to Corporate Management
  • Prepare ROI analyses associated with material capital spending requests
  • Design and implement internal controls and procedures Work with plant leadership team to identify and drive opportunities that will fuel plant growth, efficiency, and profitability
  • Work with managers in understanding, interpreting, and optimizing departmental financials
  • Perform special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed
  • Manage one direct report, a Financial Analyst
  • Lead end of year inventory and external auditor engagements
  • Lead tax abatement efforts for capital projects
  • Track and maintain tax deductible plant activities  
  • Interpret contractual terms and conditions to reduce exposure and risk for Sojos
  • Live the Sojos values and culture and doing whatever it takes for the pets who depend on us


Position Requirements: Candidates must hold a BA or BS in Accounting and have experience in a manufacturing environment. Ideally, this individual will have had 8-10 years of progressive experience with costing, general ledger and operational analyses. In addition, we are seeking candidates with broad business acumen and operational experience. You should also bring:

  • Proven experience in driving process improvement
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent project management abilities, capable of prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously, under tight time constraints and within budget parameters
  • Well-developed written and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to coach and communicate with non-accounting professionals
  • Ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and takes a proactive approach
  • Sees challenges as opportunities and translates them into actionable tasks
  • Displays grace and presence at all times
  • Energized by fast-paced environment
  • Great relationship management abilities
  • MS Office and ERP system proficiency required
  • Less than 10% travel
