National Account Manager - MN/IL << Back to Careers

Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a National Account Manager to join our Sales team. Reporting to the Sales Director, FDM, our National Account Manager will serve as a primary business owner for our Food/Drug/Mass Retail Account Management and Business Development efforts.

Position Description (Responsibilities):

  • Owns revenue, forecasting, and profitable spend for the assigned accounts
  • Ensures the achievement of both short & long term financial goals for assigned accounts
  • Owns day to day relationship with assigned accounts with primary goal of delivering short & long term financial results
  • Fosters partnership with assigned accounts to allow for account penetration up – down – across the entire account
  • Builds sustainable business processes between WellPet & assigned accounts to efficiently deliver joint value & meet commitments
  • Serves as account champion internally to make sure accounts receive support necessary to be successful
  • Serves as the chief author of business performance for assigned accounts both internally and externally
  • Provides leadership to ensure WellPet brand strategies, policies, and sales tactics are understood and implemented within his/her account
  • Develops and maintains high visibility with account key decision-makers and decision-influencers to advance business opportunities
  • Utilizes all information available to determine what’s working and not working using a data-based approach
  • Communicates crucial market, trade and competitive information on a timely basis
  • Lives the WellPet values and culture, doing whatever it takes for the pets who depend on us.


This position is ideally suited for an individual who is analytical, detail oriented, well organized & acts with a sense of urgency. Our National Account Managers have excellent verbal & written communication skills, a strong customer focus and are results-oriented. He or she will be able to balance being entrepreneurial with solid account management skills. Other requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 8+ years of experience in sales management in the consumer products industry.
  • Experience leading and owning Food, Drug, Mass Retail accounts, especially Target.
  • Proven track record for managing large, strategic and complex customers
  • Self-directed, flexible, and able to work independently
  • Experience to include both internal and account management experience
  • Computer proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel between 30% - 40% of the time
  • Collaborative, team player with a “can do” attitude.

  • Demonstrates positive attitude and takes a proactive approach
  • Sees challenges as opportunities and translates them into actionable tasks
