Position Summary:
Our Procurement team at WellPet is made up of professionals who understand the difference our products make in the lives of pets. We are currently seeking a Commodities Procurement Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Sourcing, this position is based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Tewksbury, MA. The Commodities Procurement Manager will support WellPet’s raw materials spend across three internal manufacturing locations & 8+ co-manufacturing locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Research:
Conduct market research related to raw materials, track pricing trends, and conduct cost analyses to ensure a competitive commodities portfolio.
Analyze upstream feedstocks/commodities; create cost models to understand the impact on pricing of materials delivered to WellPet sites.
Work with co-manufacturers on finished good pricing and analyzing supplier data for cost efficiencies.
Governance/ Reporting:
Track commodities contracts and flex allocations with sites on an ongoing basis to ensure contractual commitments are met in time.
Maintain and publish key PPV/ IPV & performance indicator reporting (KPI’s) in alignment with monthly financial reporting.
Troubleshoot and resolve raw materials related issues in conjunction with the site level procurement & QA teams.
Support annual budget setting process for raw materials.
Coordinate vendor qualification and management processes with our Food Safety, Quality, Manufacturing, and R&D teams at corporate and site levels.
Cost Reduction/ Project Management:
Identify and qualify new supply sources to reduce cost, simplify our supply chain, mitigate risk and improve the overall quality of our vendor base.
Identify and drive value optimization initiatives for cost/manufacturing efficiencies.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously; including meeting facilitation, documentation, creating and managing timelines, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Category Management:
Manage a portfolio of commodities across different categories with multiple supply sources.
Assist with supplier negotiations and coordinating contract execution.
Ensure ongoing accuracy of demand forecast. Manage volume/ cost to maintain COGS.
Liaise with site-level procurement and ensure on-time delivery of in spec raw materials.
Ensure compliance of all raw materials for regulatory/ business-driven changes.
Position Requirements:
This position is ideally suited for an individual who is an analytical self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Other qualifications include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain/Strategic Sourcing or a related field
Minimum 6 years of experience in strategic sourcing of commodities procurement/management of raw materials spend, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Understanding of basic manufacturing cost models & processes.
Possesses the ability to analyze and present data to multiple levels of the organization.
Well-developed project management skills. Able to work efficiently across different functional groups.
Ability to work collaboratively across different functions.
Technically savvy with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc)
Ability to travel 30% of the time.
